Michael Christopher Fuentes (born December 14, 1984 in San Diego , California ), Mike Fuentes for short , is an American musician. He played with groups such as Underminded and Isles & Glaciers , but he achieved his greatest musical success with Pierce the Veil .

Life

Mike Fuentes was born on December 14, 1984 in San Diego. He is the younger brother of Vic Fuentes , with whom he plays on Pierce the Veil. Through his father, who was a jazz musician and now works as a house painter , Fuentes learned to play the drums . He taught his older brother to play the guitar. His mother Vivian worked as a food inspector , but she had to quit her job due to carpal tunnel syndrome . He has Irish and Mexican ancestry.

He is related to Nick Martin , who currently plays in Sleeping with Sirens . Like his brother, he attended Mission Bay High School .

In addition, Mike Fuentes has two half-brothers and a half-sister, who emerged from his mother's first marriage.

Career

Mike Fuentes was active as a drummer in the hardcore band Underminded , with whom he only released an EP in 2003. In this band he played together with Nick Martin .

With his brother he founded the group Before Today in 1998 , which was called Early Times in the beginning, but had to rename itself due to a copyright infringement . After a few EPs, the group released their debut album A Celebration for an Ending in 2004 on Equal Vision Records and went on a concert tour before breaking up in 2006.

In 2007, Pierce the Veil was founded . The Fuentes brothers are supported by guitarist Tony Perry and bassist Jaime Preciado , who previously played together in a local rock band. Together the group brought out three commercially very successful studio albums with A Flair for the Dramatic , Selfish Machines and Collide with the Sky . He is now touring the world with the group and has appeared at several well-known music festivals such as Rock am Ring , Rock im Park , the Slam Dunk Festival , the Soundwave Festival and several times on the Warped Tour . In 2014 he received an award for Best Drummer at the Alternative Press Music Awards .

In addition to numerous well-known musicians from the alternative music scene such as Jonny Craig and Craig Owens , Mike Fuentes was invited to join the post-hardcore supergroup Isles & Glaciers as well as his brother Vic and their cousin Nick Martin . With this he released only one EP and played a single show.

Mike Fuentes is also active as a rapper under his pseudonym MikeyWhiskeyHands . He is supported by Pierce-the-Veil bassist Jaime Preciado, who is active under the pseudonym The Architect . Mike Fuentes has been under contract with Velocity Records since March 2012 .

Allegations of sexual misconduct

As part of the me-too campaign on the Internet and the associated increase in reports of sexual harassment and sexual misconduct towards underage female fans, Fuentes was also mentioned on November 14, 2017, who had a sexual relationship with a then 16- year old girl should have had. The person said they live in California , where sexual intercourse with teenagers under the age of 18 is prohibited. The message has censored images attached to show how Fuentes pleases himself in a video chat.

The exact allegations are rape under the law ("statutory rape") and the solicitation of nude pictures via the AOL Instant Messenger. It is said that the girl and Fuentes had established contact via MySpace and kept it going before they both met in person for the first time at a concert by Fuentes Band in the Chain Reaction in Anaheim. In 2008, both are said to have had sexual intercourse for the first time at a meeting during the Warped Tour in Pomona.

Meanwhile, a second woman has spoken out and also accuses Mike Fuentes of sexual misconduct. The 23-year-old woman explains that Fuentes met the then 14-year-old girl during the Warped Tour 2008. They are said to have exchanged numbers and stayed in contact by phone for some time. When she turned 15, he reportedly asked her for nude photos.

In mid-December 2017, Fuentes announced that he would temporarily vacate his position as drummer at Pierce the Veil in order to reflect on his past. As a result, the band had to cancel their participation in a concert tour with All Time Low in spring 2018.
