The Alternative Press Music Awards 2014 ( The AP Music Awards or APMAS for short ) took place on July 21, 2014 at the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame Museum near Lake Erie in Cleveland , Ohio . It was the first award of the music prize. The award ceremony was moderated by Blink-182 singer Mark Hoppus . Juliet Simms , singer of the now defunct band Automatic Loveletter and runner-up at The Voice reported from the red carpet before and during the event. On July 9, 2014, the professional wrestler CM Punk was announced as co-moderator, who reported from the red carpet alongside Simms.

The organizer was the American music magazine Alternative Press , which specializes in punk , hardcore and its subgenres. The award show was broadcast nationally by AXS TV . The English language broadcaster idobi Radio also reported on site. The evening before, there was a warm-up concert by Against Me! Youngs , Jenny Owen and Creepoid held at the House of Blues in Cleveland to press the wait for the awards ceremony.

The prizes were awarded in 15 categories, of which two winners had long been determined: The Vanguard Award was given to Billy Corgan from Smashing Pumpkins and the Icon Award to Joan Jett . Slash received an honorary award as a guitar legend. The readers of the magazine decided on the award of the remaining twelve prizes in an online voting. Pierce the Veil topped the list of nominees with seven nominations ahead of Bring Me the Horizon (5 nominations), All Time Low , Sleeping with Sirens , Avenged Sevenfold (4 each) and A Day to Remember (3).

Due to the enormous demand, additional tickets were made available for sale on the open market. In the end, more than 6,000 visitors were counted. An aftershow party took place immediately after the award ceremony.

Special occurrences

After Andy Biersack of the Black Veil Brides accepted the award for the best fan base , he jumped over the barrier in front of the stage and presented the award to a fan in the audience. He was of the opinion that the award does not belong to the band, but to the fan base.

In his speech of thanks for winning the prize in the category of the year for Sempiternal , BMTH singer Oliver Sykes confessed to having been addicted to ketamine for some time . This dependency was a decisive factor in the creation of the album.
