Black Veil Brides is an American rock band that has been under contract with Standby Records as well as the labels Lava Music and Universal Republic Records since September 2009 .
history
Early years (2006-2008)
Black Veil Brides was founded in 2006 by Andrew Biersack, Johnny Herold and Phil "Catalyst" Cendella. A little later came Nate Shipp and Chris Riesenberg, who contacted the band via Myspace . Nate Shipp became the lead writer on Black Veil Brides. While Andrew Biersack's lyrics were more personal in nature, Shipp wrote more dark, poetic texts.
After the group played a few shows in their hometown and headed into the studio for their first professional songs and a music video, Biersack noticed a growing distance between him and Nate. Musical and personal differences ultimately caused a split. Over time, the line-up has been changed several times. Meanwhile, Biersack is the only remaining original member.
We Stitch These Wounds (2009-2010)
In 2009 Biersack moved to Los Angeles and tried to re-establish the band there. During this time he changed his name to Andy Sixx. In August 2009 the band consisted of Chris "Hollywood" Bluser on guitar, Sandra Alvarenga on drums, David "Pan" Burton also as guitarist and Ashley Purdy as bassist. Even before the band made it into the national charts, they became known for their single Knives and Pens . On June 17, 2009, Black Veil Brides' first music video Knives and Pens was released on YouTube and reached 26,000 views in a very short time.
Shortly after the recording of the video for Knives and Pens , Chris Bluser left the band, Jinxx replaced him as guitarist shortly afterwards. In November 2009 Pan also left the band. He and Bluser then formed the band House of Glass . Jake Pitts, a good friend of Jinxx's, replaced Pan. In 2010 the EP Sex & Hollywood was self-published.
Shortly after Pan's departure, the Black Veil Brides launched their first tour with the On Leather Wings Tour . The debut album, We Stitch These Wounds , was released on July 20, 2010 via StandBy Records .
Set the World on Fire (2010-2012)
In early September 2010, Sandra also decided to leave the band in order to focus on her own music career (she currently plays with the post-hardcore band Modern Day Escape ). She was replaced by the drummer Christian "CC" Coma, with whom her second studio album Set the World on Fire was recorded in early 2011 .
Black Veil Brides played at a number of festivals in 2011. The group played on May 1st 2011 on the Jumbo Stage at The Bamboozle with Attack Attack! and A Day to Remember . On June 4, 2011, the band played at Rock am Ring , where the group played on the club stage with August Burns Red , All That Remains , Framing Hanley , KIZ , We Butter the Bread with Butter and Silverstein . On June 12, 2011 an appearance at the Download Festival in Great Britain followed. There they played on the second stage in front of bands like Rob Zombie , Buckcherry , Turisas and Yashin .
The title track of the album Set the World on Fire was used in the soundtrack of the movie Transformers 3 in 2012 . In the summer of 2012, due to the death of Andrew Biersack's grandfather, the group had to cancel the last shows of their European tour as support for Slash and Mötley Crüe in Paris , Basel , Strasbourg and Bamberg . Appearances at the Graspop Metal Meeting and the Gods of Metal Festival in Italy were also affected.
Wretched and Divine (The Story of the Wild Ones) (2012-2013)
On October 8, 2012, the group announced the cover and title of their third studio album. It's called Wretched and Divine (The Story of the Wild Ones) and was released on January 7, 2013. The album is a pure concept album in the form of a rock opera and is about the rebel group The Wild Ones , who have to defend themselves against their opponents FEAR . The album was produced by John Feldmann . The album was originally due to be released on October 30, 2012, but the release date has been postponed to early January 2013.
A film was made which can be found on a bonus DVD on the deluxe edition of the album. The title of the approximately one-hour film is called Legion of the Black and was broadcast for three days at The Silent Movie Theater in Los Angeles .
In July and August 2013 the band played on the Warped Tour in the United States and Canada .
Black Veil Brides (since 2014)
In early 2014, the group announced their fourth album, due to be released on October 28, 2014. In an interview with PitCam.tv it was said that the recording work in the studio would be finished in the summer. With Heart of Fire and Faithless , two singles were released in advance. Black Veil Brides was released on October 27, 2014 and debuted at number 10 in the US. In the UK, the album ranks 17th. The band's first live DVD is due to be released in June 2015. For this purpose, the band recorded their concert on November 1, 2014 in the Wiltern Theater in Los Angeles .
On August 12, 2014, a multi-week concert tour through the United States was announced in which Black Veil Brides will be accompanied by Falling in Reverse and Set It Off . The tour runs from October 21, 2014 to December 15, 2014. In February and March 2015, the second part of the North American tour starts with Ghost Town and Memphis May Fire as support acts.
Andy Biersack confirmed at the end of 2016 that the fifth album will be released in 2017.
On July 26, 2020 appear on Sumerian Records with Re-Stitch These Wounds a completely new version of the debut album We Stitch These Wounds , which was released a decade ago for the first time. For this purpose, a new recording of the song Sweet Blasphemy from this album was released as the first single.
style
The image leaned on the emo scene , especially in the early years . The musical style of the band, especially on the first album is a mix of metalcore / screamo in the style of Bullet for My Valentine and Avenged Sevenfold and Metal in the vein of the Black Album by Metallica . The second album is more firmly rooted in hard rock and is based not only on Metallica but also on Kiss and Mötley Crüe , whereby Biersack's vocals continue to oscillate between clear vocals and screeching screams. There are also isolated elements of Power Metal in music.
Surname
The name Black Veil Brides is a term from the Roman Catholic Church , according to Ashley Purdy . When a woman became a nun in the Middle Ages , gave up all her worldly joys and devoted her life to God, she was referred to as black veil (ed) bride ( black veil , German: "black veil"). For the band, the name also describes the positive and negative sides of life: the white veil at a wedding and the black veil of mourning.
