Against Me! is an American band from Gainesville, Florida . Her music style includes several influences, including country , hardcore , folk , punk and blues .

history

Against Me! was originally formed as a solo band in Florida by Laura Jane Grace. Grace initially wrote her songs for the acoustic guitar . At first she found it difficult to work with other musicians, but after three years the line-up was completed with another guitarist, a bassist and a drummer.

After a few demo tapes and EPs , the band, which still had only one regional name, recorded their first studio album Reinventing Axl Rose on the No Idea Records label .

The fact that the album became a huge hit came as a big surprise to all band members. Several record companies became aware of the band and so they could sign a record deal with Fat Wreck Chords . There the albums As the Eternal Cowboy and Searching for a Former Clarity appeared . In 2005 they switched to the major label Sire Records , on which they released their fourth studio album New Wave in 2007.

On June 8th, 2009, the drummer Warren Oakes announced after 8 years of working together that he was leaving the band. He was replaced by George Rebelo from Hot Water Music . However, he left the band in late 2010 to return to Hot Water Music. Since 2010 Jay Weinberg has been the band's new drummer.

On May 8, 2012, Grace announced to Rolling Stone Magazine that she would undergo gender reassignment and continue to live as a woman under the name Laura Jane Grace. The interview was published in Rolling Stone Magazine on May 11, 2012.

In December 2012, Jay Weinberg left the band. At the following concerts Atom Willard sat for Against Me! on the drums. Since July 31, 2013 he has been an official member of Against Me !.

On May 2, 2013, longtime bassist Andrew Seward announced that he was leaving the band. Successor on bass was Inge Johansson, who previously worked for Refused and The (International) Noise Conspiracy . Andrew Seward officially returned as bassist for Against Me! In July 2018. back
