Cooking Vinyl is a London- based English music label . It was originally primarily specialized in folk bands, but has expanded the musical spectrum massively over time. Sound carriers from the fields of electronic music ( Asian Dub Foundation ), metalcore ( All That Remains ) or rock music (including Marilyn Manson ) were made accessible.

history

It was founded in 1986 by Martin Goldschmidt and Pete Lawrence in Stockwell . The first publication was The Texas Campfire Tapes by Michelle Shocked in the same year , of which around 150,000 units were estimated worldwide. Lawrence sold his shares in Goldschmidt in 1989 when the company was on the verge of bankruptcy.

It then took five years for Goldschmidt and Cooking Vinyl to pay off all their debts. In the following years, the label opened full-service outlets in Australia, Germany and France, offering brands and artists strategic marketing and creative marketing services. Cooking Vinyl USA last opened in 2016 .

In 2015 Cooking Vinyl released The Day Is My Enemy by The Prodigy , which reached number 1 in the UK charts and was also awarded gold .

In addition to first publications, there are also re-publications such as B. TRB2 (1994, originally 1979) by the Tom Robinson Band or the debut album by The Bongos (2011, originally 1982) to the repertoire.
