Adam Cohen (born September 18, 1972 in Montreal ) is a Canadian musician and singer-songwriter . He is the son of Leonard Cohen .

life and career

Adam Cohen was born on September 18, 1972 in Montreal, his mother is Suzanne Elrod, his father Leonard Cohen and his younger sister Lorca Cohen. In his childhood he lived on the Greek island of Hydra , in New York and in Los Angeles . After his parents separated, he spent his youth in Paris and the south of France. He started playing guitar and piano when he was twelve. He studied international relations at Syracuse University in New York. In 1996 he settled in Los Angeles to focus on a musical career. He signed a contract with Columbia Records. His first album, Adam Cohen , was described as a promising debut by New York Times critic Stephen Holden. In 2004, a French-language album followed, Mélancolista , which was particularly popular in Canada and France. In addition to his solo career, Cohen was part of the Californian band Low Millions , which released the album Ex-Girlfriends in 2004. In 2007 he took part in a tribute concert for his father - Acordes con Leonard Cohen / According to Leonard Cohen - in Barcelona, ​​where he performed Pequeňo vals vienés , the Spanish version of Take this Waltz , his father's homage to Federico García Lorca . After a long break in which he almost gave up his musical ambitions, his acoustic album Like a Man , produced by Patrick Leonard , was released in 2011 , which ushered in a new career phase. In 2014 his new album We Go Home was released , stylistically following on from the previous one. In the timbre of his voice and in the lyrics, Adam repeatedly alludes to songs by Leonard Cohen.

In 2016 he produced his father's last studio album entitled You Want It Darker . On November 22, 2019, he produced the album Thanks for the Dance by Leonard Cohen, for which he composed the music.
