The Bhundu Boys were a musical group from Harare , Zimbabwe . The band combined Chimurenga with rock 'n' roll , disco and pop influences.

Band history

The band was founded in 1980 and became known in Europe in the 1980s through, among others, John Peel , who is said to have been completely overwhelmed by the music himself when he first heard it. In 1993 they were among the accompanists for Latin Quarter on their album Long Pig . Together with them they covered Ring of Fire and Radio Africa .

Bhundu means bush. The name is based on the Bhundu Boys who fought as guerrillas for the independence of Zimbabwe on the side of Robert Gabriel Mugabe until 1980 . They had their first hit in 1985 when Hatisitose was # 1 in Zimbabwe for three months.

From the original cast David Mankaba died in 1991, Shepherd Munyama 1992 Shakespeare Kangwena 1993 AIDS . The singer Biggie Tembo committed suicide in 1995.
