The third Alternative Press Music Awards were presented on July 18, 2016 in Columbus , Ohio .

history

The date for the third Alternative Press Music Awards ceremony was announced on December 25, 2015. However, at this point in time, no exact location was known. The reason for this was the Republican National Convention that took place in the same month , which had first-time booking rights for most event centers in Cleveland . The operators of the Quicken Loans Arena and Vinovich Park , which hosted the event in the first two stages , canceled . Quicken Loans Arena operators were trying to find a new venue , according to an article on Cleveland.com . Another, but more expensive alternative, says Mike Shea, would be to move to another city, such as Detroit , Cincinnati or Los Angeles .

On January 19, 2016, it was announced that the third Alternative Press Music Awards ceremony would be held on July 18, 2016 at Value City Arena in the Jerome Schottenstein Center on the Ohio State University campus in Columbus , Ohio . The award ceremony took place at the same time as the Republican National Convention. As in the previous year, Jack Barakat and Alex Gaskarth from All Time Low moderated the award ceremony.

On March 17, 2016, singer Jenna McDougall from Tonight Alive and Cody Carson from Set It Off! the nominations known.

The ceremony took place in the presence of approximately 6,000 visitors.

Charisma

For the first time since the first award ceremony in 2014, APMAS were not shown on AXS TV . Instead, it was possible to follow the award ceremony via live stream on Amazon and Twitch . More than half a million people watched the awards ceremony there, making the award the third-most-streamed music event of 2016 in Twitch history.

Appearances and procedure

More than a dozen artists performed that evening, including Good Charlotte , Babymetal , Neck Deep , Of Mice & Men and Papa Roach , who was supported by rapper Machine Gun Kelly . Worth mentioning was a performance by an all-star band consisting of Andy Black , Christian Coma (both active with Black Veil Brides ), Mikey Way , Quinn Allman from The Used and John Feldmann from Goldfinger .

Tyler Joseph and Josh Dun did not attend the awards ceremony as they were on tour at the time and played a concert in Seattle , Washington state . The group thanked the guests and their fans by video message for winning the prizes. Panic too ! at the Disco and fall-out boy singer Patrick Stump stayed away from the event due to scheduling reasons. Both thanked the fans over the phone. Those present also included all the participants in this year's Warped Tour, which took a break that day, including the founder and organizer Kevin Lyman . In previous editions, Lyman planned a day off in Ohio for this period.

After the Ghost Inside's Jonathan Vigil accepted the award for best fan base, he said that after the accident in November 2015, he no longer intended to take a stage. However, according to Vigil, it was thanks to the fans that he changed his mind.
