The Value City Arena at the Jerome Schottenstein Center is a multi-purpose arena in Columbus , Ohio and the home of the basketball and ice hockey teams at Ohio State University . In addition, other events such as trade fairs and concerts take place in the hall, which was opened in 1998.
history
Construction work on the arena began in April 1996 and was completed two and a half years later. The Ohio State basketball team had previously played their home games at the St. John Arena , while the ice hockey team played at the OSU Ice Arena . After the opening, both teams moved to the new hall, which was then called the Value City Arena . After the naming rights were granted in 2008 by Schottenstein Stores Corp. were acquired, the venue was renamed after Jerome Schottenstein , founder of the company and promoter of the arena project.
In 2005 the arena hosted the NCAA Frozen Four , the college ice hockey championship.
