Leopold Leopoldi

Leopold Leopoldi , b. Kohn (born November 15, 1860 in Saladorf -Diendorf ( Lower Austria ); † November 22 or 23, 1933 in Vienna ) was an Austrian violinist and pianist .

Life

Leopold Kohn, who later made his stage name Leopoldi the official surname for his family and himself, came from an old family of musicians and mastered ten instruments. He was trained at the Conservatory of the Gesellschaft der Musikfreunde in Vienna with Josef Hellmesberger senior . He did his military service at the military music of the 72nd Infantry Regiment. There he was solo violinist of the string orchestra. He later lived as a freelance musician. For example, he had engagements at the Klein establishment in Hernals , where he worked with the folk singers Carl Spacek and Wilhelm Seidl-Maier . With his wife Hermine, b. Wiener, he had sons Ferdinand and Hermann Leopoldi . After receiving lessons from their father, they also embarked on a musical career and later founded the Leopoldi-Wiesenthal cabaret, in which Leopold Leopoldi performed as a pianist.
