Andrew Ross McMahon (born September 3, 1982 in Concord , Massachusetts ) is an American singer and songwriter . He is the lead singer, pianist, and songwriter for Something Corporate and also worked with another band of their own called Jack's Mannequin , which broke up in 2012.

Life

Andrew Ross McMahon was born on September 3, 1982 in Concord, Massachusetts and has been playing the piano since he was eight. In 1991 his family moved to Bexley , Ohio , where he attended Cassingham Elementary School and became a local legend when he performed solo piano pieces before he could even read sheet music. After moving to Orange County , California , he formed his first band, Left Here , in 1997 with high school friends and later Something Corporate members Kevin Page (bass) and Brian Ireland (drums).

Although the band won a local band competition, they soon broke up. McMahon recorded a self-titled four-track CD with the help of a few friends including guitarist Josh Partington . In 1998 McMahon, Page, Ireland, Partington and guitarist Reuben Hernandez (later replaced by William Tell ) formed the piano-rock band Something Corporate . In 2005 Andrew McMahon was diagnosed with leukemia, which he defeated after a long struggle and has now fully recovered. During this phase of his life, he started the charity called the Dear Jack Foundation, which primarily supports children diagnosed with leukemia.

With McMahon as their leader , Something Corporate recorded their 10-song demo album Ready ... Break in 2000 . This brought them a record deal with the indie record label Drive-Thru Records . In 2001 the band released their first EP Audioboxer worldwide under this label . McMahon's singing, his songwriting and especially his piano playing brought the CD good reviews and made the MCA (now Geffen ) aware of the band. Due to a contract between the two record labels, MCA was able to sign the band and release the second album Leaving Through the Window in May 2002.

The band went on tour in the US to promote the album. They were also seen as a support act for New Found Glory on their European tour.
