Something Corporate is a rock band from Orange County ( California ). While they classify themselves as piano rock, they are generally classified somewhere between pop and punk. You are currently under contract with Drive-Thru Records and Geffen Records.

history

In September 1998, singer and pianist Andrew McMahon, bassist Kevin "Clutch" Page and drummer Brian Ireland, who until then had played as 'Left Behind', teamed up with guitarists Josh Partington and Reuben Hernandez to form 'Something Corporate'. The band name is an ironic statement with which they want to express their disdain for the industrial assembly line music, the "corporate music". The band released their demo CD Ready ... Break in September 2000 . On March 27, 2001 Something Corporate officially announced a line-up change in which Hernandez was permanently replaced by William Tell.

Shortly afterwards, the quintet signed a record deal with Drive-Thru Records, which released their debut album 'Audioboxer' on October 2, 2001. The critically acclaimed EP with just six songs began to become popular after California radio station KROQ discovered the song If UC Jordan and added it to its playlist. Otherwise the EP was promoted with a tour of the USA, performances in record stores by Tower Records and an appearance on Craig Kilborn's Late Night Show on February 25, 2002. The success of the EP and a clause in the distribution agreement with Drive-Thru Records resulted in one Signed contract with MCA, which later merged with Geffen Records. On May 21, 2001 Something Corporate released their major label debut album Leaving Trough The Window , with the singles "I Woke Up In A Car" and "Punk Rock Princess". The album reached number 1 in the American Billboard Heatseekers Charts , number 1 in the American Billboard Alternative New Artist Charts and number 101 in the US Billboard 200 Albums Charts . "Punk Rock Princess" made it to number 33 on the UK Singles Chart . To shorten the time to their next album, Something Corporate released a half-hour home video on DVD on November 5, 2002, entitled A Year In The Life . The single compilation Songs For Silent Movies was released on May 21, 2003 in Japan.
