New Years Day (actually New Year's Day ) is a rock band from Anaheim , California , United States , formed in 2005 .

history

The beginnings

The group's history began in early 2005 when bassist Adam Lohrbach left the pop-punk band Home Grown . Lohrbach found two comrades-in- arms in Ash Costello as singer and Keith Drover as keyboardist and guitarist . Shortly thereafter, the group produced a two-piece demo and played their first concerts with the assistance of Eric Seilo on bass. However, Seilo quit his job to go to college . A little later, former Wakefield musician Mike Schoolden on guitar and Russell Dixon on drums were integrated into the group. After the line-up of the band was completed, the band was called New Years Day .

EP Razor and album My Dear

Due to its lively activity on the social media platform Myspace, the group was able to build up a larger fan base in the first few years. One song by the group was put on MySpace Records Volume I and also managed to get Ready, Aim, Misfire on the game soundtrack for Saints Row .

The group considered signing a record deal with Decaydance Records , which is operated by Fall-Out-Boy member Pete Wentz , but later decided against it and was instead with TVT Records . In 2006, the first EP was released, named after the band. This was mainly offered as a download , CDs could only be bought at concerts of the band. In the same year the group started work on the debut album, which was financed out of pocket and produced by a friend of the band. The recordings lasted just over eight months. My Dear was released on May 8, 2007. During this period the band toured with The Fall of Troy , Red Jumpsuit Apparatus and Hawthorne Heights . After the group performed on the Warped Tour , guitarist Keith Drover left the band and emigrated to Sweden .

A year after the release of the debut album, TVT Records had to file for bankruptcy and sold the entire label catalog to The Orchard , which meant that the album never received the necessary promotion and was forgotten. Shortly after the record company's bankruptcy became known, Adam Lohrbach and Mike School left New Years Day. Despite the difficult phase, the remaining musicians worked on new song material.

EP The Mechanical Heart

On March 12, 2010 the band was announced for several concerts on the Warped Tour . On July 2, 2010, Headlines & Headstones, a compilation with pieces from previous publications and additional material, was released exclusively on the Japanese market via Spinning Inc.

On January 31, 2011, Matthew Lindblad was accepted as the new guitarist in the band, where he replaced the meanwhile joined Dan Arnold, even if the separation between Arnold and the band was never publicly announced. Shortly afterwards, an additional guitarist was integrated into the group with Jake Jones. In May 2011 it was announced that the band had signed a recording deal with Hollywood Waste Records . The second EP, The Mechanical Heart , was released on June 21, 2011 , and received positive feedback. Between October and December 2011 the band played as the opening act for Blood on the Dance Floor on their All the Rage tour . During this concert tour, Lindblad was replaced by Nikki Misery.

Album Victim to Villain and EP Epidemic

The group signed a recording deal with Century Media and released their second album Victim to Villain on June 11, 2013 . In addition, the band played the entire Warped Tour for the first time . In addition, the group completed concert tours with Otep , Stolen Babies , Combichrist and William Control until spring 2014 .

At the beginning of the year, the band split from drummer Nick Turner, who had only replaced longtime drummer Russell Dixon at the end of 2013. Nick Rossi became the new drummer. Jake Jones left New Years Day shortly before the start of their European tour as the opening act for Escape the Fate and Glamor of the Kill . Tyler Burgess became the new guitarist. On November 18, 2014, the EP Epidemic was released on Gray Area Records after the band split from Century Media. To promote the EP, the band toured opening act for The Birthday Massacre . On December 22nd, 2014 it was announced that the band would support Motionless in White on the Beyond the Barricades Tour in February and March 2015 , which was also accompanied by For Today and Ice Nine Kills . Shortly before the Beyond the Barricades Tour , Anthony Barro left the group, whereby Tyler Burgess switched from guitar to bass and with Jeremy Valentyine a new guitarist was integrated into the band.

Malevolence album

In February 2015, the group was announced again for the Warped Tour , where they played on the Journeys Left Foot Stage . The group also played at the Warped Tour kickoff party in Los Angeles with artists such as Metro Station , Crossfaith and As It Is . Shortly after this performance, Burgess announced his departure and was replaced by Chris Khaos on bass for the duration of the Warped Tour. During the Warped Tour, the group announced their third album for the fall and released the single Kill or be Killed . In addition, the album could only be pre-ordered during the festival tour. After the Warped Tour, Brandon Wolfe was introduced as the new bass player. Rossi was replaced by Trixx on drums.

On October 2, 2015, Malevolence was released, the third studio album, which was released via Another Century . The album debuted at number 45 on the official album charts in the United States, making it the band's first album to enter the album charts. In August, the first headline tour was announced, which was accompanied by The Relapse Symphony , Get Scared and Eyes Set to Kill . A tour with Chelsea Grin and Motionless in White , which was to lead through the United Kingdom in November, was temporarily canceled due to the terrorist attacks in Paris in mid-November and postponed to an unknown date. It has since been announced that the tour will be rescheduled in January 2016, although Chelsea Grin will not be able to complete this concert tour.
