The Stolen Babies are an American music group from Los Angeles around the singer and front woman Dominique Lenore Persi . The music of the Stolen Babies offers a mixture of metal , avant-garde rock and countless other genres, including circus music and cabaret .

Career

The formation was founded under the name The Fratellis (not to be confused with the Scottish band of the same name ). This was initially a twelve-man Dark Cabaret - performance group . After the dissolution, the remaining four members founded the band Stolen Babies , named after a piece from the previous formation.

The Californians themselves describe their music as “Prog-Pop-Cabaret-Thrash-Quirky-Goth-Rock” and have a desire to create music to which “one can dance, stumble and fall unrestrained”.

Dominique Lenore Persi (Live in Munich, 2008)

Singer Dominique Lenore Persi is responsible for the lyrics of the songs of the Stolen Babies , who, according to her own statement, deals with dark childhood memories. Dominique Lenore Persi commented on the texts as follows: “We always refer to childhood memories, not necessarily to children's books. Such memories are very strong, especially when the monster actually comes out of the closet. Then it will stick with you for a lifetime. ”The music, on the other hand, is written by Ben Rico. He mentions Danny Elfman , Ennio Morricone and Jerry Goldsmith as his musical role models. Furthermore, the Czech artist and director Jan Švankmajer are mentioned as artistic influences, and the music groups Oingo Boingo and Mr. Bungle as musical influences.

Published in 2006, the Stolen Babies , after two demos and an EP, their first album There Be Squabbles Ahead (dt. There will be armed ). Initially more of an insider tip, they were supported on the debut album by members of the avant-garde band Sleepytime Gorilla Museum , which also gave them a higher profile. Nevertheless, the album was initially only released in North America in 2006 and was self-distributed under No Comment Records . In the same year, the group contributed the song "Grubbery" to the soundtrack of the award-winning horror short film "Cannibal Flesh Riot" by artist Gris Grimly.

Munich (2008)

After they got a record deal with the big label The End Records , this album was re-released in late 2007 / early 2008 in large numbers in Europe. It was received very favorably by the specialist press. The music group's style, which mixes metal with circus music, and the multi-faceted singing of the front woman were praised. The music magazine Zillo named There Be Squabbles Ahead album of the month. The Hades took the album release as an opportunity to the Stolen Babies for Newcomer of the month to appoint.

The album also received praise for the comic artwork designed by the artist Crab Scrambly. The latter, whose style is reminiscent of that of Roman Dirge or Tim Burton , has so far mainly drawn comics and illustrated children's books. A highly acclaimed music video was also created for the song Push Button . At the beginning of 2008 the band toured Europe together with The Dillinger Escape Plan and Poison the Well . New material was first announced on MySpace in January 2010. In the summer of 2010, the new song Splatter was released there in advance . More songs from the upcoming album have already been presented at concerts and festivals such as the M'era Luna Festival . In autumn 2012 the second album Naught was finally released .
