Dark cabaret

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Dark Cabaret , also known as Cabaret Noir , is a collective name for bands who combine the aesthetics of decadence , the era of the Weimar Republic , as well as elements of cabaret , burlesque and vaudeville theater with the attitude and style of punk , indie rock , Folk , metal , gothic and death rock mixed.

In the Dark Cabaret, deep chanson voices are used, which are reminiscent of Marlene Dietrich 's singing , but also cacophonic singing that suggests the influence of punk. Male voices are also represented and are most likely to be reminiscent of an operetta by Kurt Weill . The singing is usually accompanied by acoustic instruments, especially the piano , strings (such as cello and violin ), acoustic guitar and accordion . Influential dark cabaret artists are Rozz Williams , The Dresden Dolls and Voltaire .

In 2005, the American label Projekt Records released the compilation Projekt Presents: A Dark Cabaret , with which it made the name "Dark Cabaret" popular.
