Voltaire (born January 25, 1967 in Havana ; full name Aurelio Voltaire Hernandez ) is a musician who is close to the American Gothic scene . During his childhood his family emigrated from Cuba to New Jersey . In addition to his work as a musician, Voltaire works as a product designer, stop-motion film animator, comic book and book author. He is also a lecturer at the School of Visual Arts in New York .

Voltaire is best known as a solo artist and is supported both in the studio and live by various other musicians. The 2008 line-up consisted of Voltaire ( vocals and acoustic guitar ), Gregor Kitzis ( violin and mandolin ), Matthew Goeke ( cello ), Glenn Sorino ( drums ) and Franz Nicoleay ( accordion ).
