The Birthday Massacre is a synth rock band from Toronto , Canada . It was founded in 1999 - at that time still under the name Imagica .
history
During their college days, Chibi (vocals), Rainbow (guitar), M. Falcore (guitar), Aslan (bass) and Dank Gott (keyboard) formed the band "Imagica" in London, Ontario . When performing live, they were supported by drummers such as OE. During this time they released a limited demo recording with seven tracks. After thank God left the band in 2001, the rest of the group moved to Toronto. There she again released a limited demo with five tracks. Shortly thereafter, Imagica renamed itself The Birthday Massacre after legal disputes. In 2002 the formation released a limited CD entitled Nothing and Nowhere in self-distribution .
In 2003 Adm (keyboard) and Rhim (drums) joined the group. In July 2004 The Birthday Massacre released their EP Violet (9 tracks) and a new edition of Nothing and Nowhere at the end of the same year . Adm left the formation shortly afterwards. In autumn 2004 they were signed to the German label Repo Records and released a revised and expanded version of Violet in Europe.
In 2005 they signed a contract with Metropolis Records and have now released Violet in the USA, Canada, Great Britain and South Africa. In August O-En (keyboard) joined and The Birthday Massacre started a tour of Europe. At the beginning of 2006 she conducted her Broken Minds tour through North America with performances in Canada, the USA and Mexico . In October and November 2007 they presented the new songs from the 2007 album Walking with Strangers live and performed in England, France, Spain, Switzerland and Germany. Her live album Show and Tell was released in May 2009 . The recordings are from 2007 during their tour through Germany.
They also performed at festivals such as the M'era Luna .
The Birthday Massacre see themselves as a “ musical / visual project ” with the aim of “integrating their music into an overall concept of fashion, images and performance ”.
