Ice Nine Kills was founded in 2002 by high school friends Spencer Charnas and Jeremy Schwartz in Boston, Massachusetts under the name Ice Nine , but changed their band name to their current name before the release of their first album Last Chance to Make Amends .

In mid-2007 the EP The Burning was released on Red Blue Records. Opener tours for I See Stars and Eyes Set to Kill followed , as well as appearances with bands such as As I Lay Dying , A Day to Remember , Paramore and Thursday . Through an appearance on the Warped Tour in 2009, the label Ferret Music became aware of the group and offered the musicians to release an album. The second album Safe Is Just a Shadow was released on July 2, 2010 in co-production via Red Blue Records and Ferret Music.

The group spent most of 2012 touring. The band played a concert tour through Canada with We Came as Romans and the United States with Norma Jean and This or the Apocalypse . In November 2012, the group started a crowdfunding campaign on Kickstarter.com to help them produce an EP. A month later, it was announced that this campaign raised $ 21,000, which made the EP a reality. This is called The Predator and was released in January 2013. In the same year the group played several concerts on the Warped Tour.

In 2014 the third album The Predator Becomes the Prey was released via Outerloop Records, a sub-label of the concert agency Outerloop Management and the record company Fearless Records . The album made it into the official album charts in the United States, where it debuted at number 153. The album is the label's very first ever release.

The group spent the summer on the entire Warped Tour for the first time. The band also toured with Get Scared and Upon This Dawning . In February and March 2015, the band toured with For Today and Motionless in White . On September 17, 2015 it was announced that the band had found accommodation with Fearless Records.

The fourth studio album Every Trick In the Book was released on December 4, 2015 and also entered the national charts. Shortly before the album was released, the group played a headlining tour with labelmates Wage War .

On June 15, 2018, the band announced on Instagram that drummer Conor Sullivan had broken up with the band to pursue other projects and musical interests. Patrick Galante, formerly at Affiance , will take his place on the Warped Tour 2018 .

On June 20, 2018, Ice Nine Kills released the single The American Nightmare , the first single from the upcoming album The Silver Scream . The Silver Scream was released on October 5th, 2018. It contains 13 songs inspired by 13 horror films.

In 2020 Ice Nine Kills toured Europe with Papa Roach & Hollywood Undead .
