Underminded is a hardcore / metalcore band from San Diego , California , United States , formed in 1999 .
history
Underminded was founded in 1999 in San Diego , California by singer Nick Martin and guitarist Matt Johnson. Both attended a Catholic school at this point. In 2000, a drummer Tanner Wayne and a bassist Brandon Caldwell joined the group. The group was encouraged to tour by Buck-O-Nine singer Jon Pebsworth.
In 2003 the first EP was released under the name The Task of the Modern Educator on which Mike Fuentes , who is now active with his older brother Vic at Pierce the Veil , can be heard as a drummer. Just one year later, Unamerican appeared with Hail! her debut album on Kung Fu Records . To promote their album, the group toured the full Warped Tour that same year . The group also toured in 2005 as part of the Kung Fu tour as the opening act of Vandals through Europe . However, the group played concerts on European soil in early 2004.
The follow-up album Eleven: Eleven was announced for 2006 , but the album was only released in 2007. It was produced by Paul Miner and released through Uprising Records . Underminded toured with Scary Kids Scaring Kids , The Devil Wears Prada , Chiodos and Emery , among others .
The group has been quiet for several years. In a 2009 interview in Decoy Magazine, it was stated that the group is neither on hiatus nor disbanded, but rather active.
style
The music is described as an energetic mix of Poison the Well , Strike Anywhere , Hope Conspiracy and Boysetsfire . The band has two shouters in Nick Martin and Matt Johnson. The lyrics are on a personal basis and have a political undertone. This is the main concept of the debut album Hail Unamerican! on the subject of education.
The musicians themselves do not see a neo-political band in Underminded, even if the population sees them as such.
“We are certainly not a neo-political band that tries to impose an opinion on its listeners. Unfortunately a lot of people understand UNDERMINDED as such a band. Being critical of politics and politics is a part of me and the rest of the band. Nevertheless, it goes to 'Hail Unamerican!' much more than just pointing a finger at the things that need to be changed. "
Singer Nick Martin also does not describe Underminded as a typical hardcore band, but rather describes hardcore as one of many musical elements.

Side projects
Singer Nick Martin was part of the Chiodos live line-up for some time and was also active in the supergroup Isles & Glaciers and in the now defunct punk band Cinematic Sunrise . He was also announced as the first guitarist on Craig Owens' new music project .
Tanner Wayne was the backup drummer for Scary Kids Scaring Kids and Underoath during the Warped Tour 2009. He was also a drummer for Chiodos between 2010 and 2012 . He can be heard on the 2010 album Illuminaudio . Wayne played drums for Emmure on their European tour, was a member of the Bad Production Team and in the band WEED , which was founded by Sky Blu and Shwayze .
