Emery is a post-hardcore band from Rock Hill , South Carolina and Seattle , Washington . According to The Question Deluxe Edition DVD , the band was named after a boy Toby met in high school .

biography

The band was formed in Rockhill, SC by Toby Morrell, Matt Carter, and Joel "Chopper" Green, but moved to Seattle, Washington in September 2001 due to better musical development opportunities. The current drummer is from Indianapolis.

Emery is currently under contract with Tooth & Nail Records. Their first headlining tour was the Grab Your Guns Tour in 2005 with bands like He Is Legend or Gym Class Heroes . She also supported Story of the Year on their headlining tour through Australia in 2006 and then played on the Vans Warped Tour , on whose documentary video Wake Up Screaming she can be seen. She also took part in Hot Topic's Sub City Take Action! 2007 tour with The Red Jumpsuit Apparatus , Scary Kids Scaring Kids , A Static Lullaby , and Kaddisfly , which began in February 2007 and led through 40 cities across the United States. She toured several times with bands such as B. Plain White T’s or Hawthorne Heights . In April 2009 Emery toured Europe for the first time.

Christianity

All members of the band are Christians , but the band is reluctant to be branded as a Christian Rock band. Although their views are Christian, they fear that their standing as Christians may limit their ability to reach their audiences. With a non-Christian image, they hope to be able to address non-Christians on their issues. In an interview with the defunct website hardcorechristian.com, singer and guitarist Devin said:

I know for a while it was fashionable to be a Christian band. We're just Christian people in a band, so we're first and foremost Christians ... obviously ... the band comes and goes again, it'll break up one day, that's the natural course of things, just like everywhere else. We are first and foremost Christians and that should first affect what we do every day, in our jobs and in our lives, so I mean ... Every day thousands of Christian fans write to us, 'Hey you are the best Christian band blah blah blah 'or' one of the best 'or whatever and that's nice too, but we gave up on pulling this scam because it's pretty difficult to get rid of the image of a Christian band so that non-Christian people can hear you too, because if you only play at Christian events and only with Christian bands, you are cutting yourself off the branch you are sitting on, in relation to your career and even to your preaching role to such people. [...] I mean, there are other places and people for that. There are a lot of very good worship bands and things like that and I think they are meant to do that, but we definitely shouldn't be called that. We tried, we played in churches with a lot of christian bands a few times and we really felt out of place, it was almost like God was saying this is not what you should be doing guys. It wasn't that bad or anything, but we just don't have that sense of fulfillment that we feel now, because that's how we relate to the people, to the audience, much better than to youth groups. "

- Devin Shelton

When asked about playing with non-Christian bands, drummer David Powell replied to the suburban.com website:

Yes, we played with a few. We prefer. For the purpose and motives of this band, it is absolutely pointless to only play with Christian bands. I don't treat people differently just because they're not Christians. We do whatever we do - you know my band let me do the interview because I'm the worst speaker, they thought that was funny - we do where we feel we are headed. With words we can say anything and the audience will be irritable. Life is different. I would much rather that people SEE that I am a Christian and not HEAR it
