The MTV Europe Music Awards 2017 (also EMAs 2017 ) ceremony took place on November 12, 2017 at Wembley Arena in London , United Kingdom . It was the sixth time the MTV Europe Music Awards had been held in the UK and, after 1996, the second time the event had been held in London. The event was moderated by the British singer Rita Ora .

The nominations for the individual categories were announced by MTV on October 10, 2017. Most of the nominations went to Taylor Swift , who was nominated in six categories, followed by Shawn Mendes , who was nominated in five categories. In most of the categories, fans were able to vote via the Internet address of the MTV Europe Music Awards from October 10, 2017 to November 11, 2017. The winner of the Best Video category was determined by MTV itself. For the Biggest Fans category , all nominated artists received specific hashtags that fans could use on Twitter and Instagram . The winner in this category was the artist whose hashtag was shared the most.

In Germany, the program was broadcast on November 12, 2017 at 8 p.m. on MTV Germany (Pay TV) and Nicknight (Free TV) as well as via livestream on the website tv.mtvema.com.
