Kiriko Takemura (竹村 桐子, Takemura Kiriko; born January 29, 1993 ) (best known by her stage name Kyary Pamyu Pamyu (Hiragana: き ゃ り ー ぱ み ゅ ゅ ぱ み ゅ)) is a Japanese model as well as a blogger and musician from Harajuku , a district of Tokyo .

Career

Takemura started out as a fashion blogger, and later started her career as a professional model for Harajuku fashion magazines like Kera! and zipper . After achieving a certain level of fame, she began establishing herself as a businesswoman with a line of false eyelashes called "Harajuku Doll Eyelashes by Eyemazing x Kyary," and attended fashion shows.

In April 2011, she led the charity event “One Snap For Love” with Yasumasa Yonehara and the Japanese brand 6% DOKIDOKI for the victims of the 2011 Tōhoku earthquake . Her music career began in July 2011 when she released her first single "PONPONPON" on July 20, 2011. The single was produced by Yasutaka Nakata and her debut mini album も し も し 原宿 (Moshi Moshi Harajuku) was released on August 17, 2011.

Kyary Pamyu Pamyu's second single "つ け ま つ け る (Tsukema Tsukeru)" was released on January 11, 2012. On April 4, 2012, their third single "CANDY CANDY" was released. In early September 2012, Kyary announced that she was working with Japanese fashion brand gu on her next single. The title of the single is "フ ァ ッ シ ョ ン モ ン ス タ ー (Fashion Monster)" and was released on October 17, 2012. A week after the release of her debut mini-album, she gave an autobiography called Oh! In March 2015, Kyary Pamyu Pamyu released her single "Mondai Girl". In June, Kyary was selected by the international cosmetics brand MAC Cosmetics as one of their "Global Heroes" and presented in an interview on their website. The compilation album "KPP Best", which was released in 2016 on the occasion of the 5th anniversary of their debut, was awarded gold by the Recording Industry Association of Japan. On May 25, 2016, Kyary's debut album KPP Best was released with her single "Sai & Co", which was released on April 20. Around this time Kyary announced a third world tour entitled "Five Years Monster World Tour". The world tour visited Singapore, London, Sydney, Melbourne, San Francisco, New York City, Taipei and Tokyo. On December 27, 2016, Kyary announced that she would be collaborating with English singer Charli XCX on Yasutaka Nakata's solo track "Crazy Crazy". Her single Kamaitachi was released on April 23, 2020 , again produced by Yasutaka Nakata. The tour of the same name was canceled due to the corona pandemic.
