biography

Natalia Lafourcade grew up as a musician with a Mexican mother and a Chilean father in Coatepec ( Veracruz ). She received extensive artistic training, which, in addition to music, also included dance and painting.

In 1998 she went back to her native Mexico City and became a member of the three-piece band Twist , which only lasted one year. She made her first solo recordings in 2000 with the Italian producer Loris Ceroni and later with Aureo Baqueiro. This resulted in her self-named debut album, which was released in 2002. It was an instant hit and reached number one on the Mexican album charts. At the Grammy Awards 2004 she was nominated for the award for best Latin pop album , she was nominated four times for the Latin Grammy , including as Newcomer of the Year and for her debut single En el 2000 as Song of the Year.

Before the second album, Lafourcade put together a backing band with a guitarist, drummer and keyboard player. As Natalia y la Forquetina they released the single Un pato in 2004 and the album Casa the following year . It reached number one again, and this time it won a Latin Grammy in the category Best Rock Album . After a year of extensive touring, she ended the band intermezzo and became a solo musician again.

The Mexican released the EP Las 4 estaciones del amor in 2007 with four instrumental pieces. As a musician, she accompanied Julieta Venegas the following year when recording her MTV Unplugged album. In the same year she also took part in the Red Bull Music Academy , an annual international music festival and workshop.

Natalia Lafourcade's next album, Hu hu hu , was released in 2009. She wrote most of the songs on it during a long stay in Canada, three of which were her first English-language songs. Venegas is featured as a guest singer on the title song. The album was not as successful as the previous ones and only reached number nine in Mexico, but it earned her another Grammy nomination for best Latin Pop album and a Latin Grammy nomination. After that she toured not only through North and South America, but also through Europe and Japan.

After that, Lafourcade's next project was songs by the Mexican composer Agustín Lara . With twelve different guest musicians she recorded a tribute album entitled Mujer divina , which was released on CD and DVD in 2012. It won her Latin Grammys number two and three in the categories of Best Alternative Album and Best Long Video Video .

The next studio album was titled Hasta la raíz and in the spring of 2015 brought her to number one in her country's album charts for the third time .
