Juntos pelo Povo ( JPP , German: "Together / Together through the people") is a social liberal regional party on the Portuguese island of Madeira . It is one of the currently 25 approved Portuguese parties. (As of July 2019)

history

In April 2009 it was initially formed as a citizens' list in the Santa Cruz district . It first appeared in the 2013 local elections. After you immediately u. a. won the majority in the municipality of Gaula , they formally decided to form a party, as the Portuguese constitution only allows officially registered parties to participate in elections beyond local elections. With 10,000 signatures, the JPP exceeded the required 7,500 signatures and was finally recognized as a party by the Portuguese Constitutional Court on January 27, 2015 . It gained the attention of the media, who expect a change in the political landscape of the Autonomous Region of Madeira with the emergence of the JPP .

As an official party, it took part in the regional elections in Madeira for the first time in 2015 and won 10.34% of the vote and thus five seats in the regional parliament of Madeira. The profits come mainly from former voters of the social democratic PS . In the regional elections in Madeira on September 22, 2019, the party received 5.47% of the vote, or 7,830 votes. Under the leadership of its General Secretary Élvio Duarte Martins Sousa, the JPP was able to send 3 MPs to the regional parliament of Madeira. All three MPs already belonged to parliament in the previous legislative period for the JPP.
