The MTV Europe Music Awards 2014 (also EMAs 2014 ) took place on November 9th 2014 at the SSE Hydro in Glasgow , Scotland . The show was moderated by the American rapper Nicki Minaj .
Most of the nominations received Katy Perry , who was nominated in seven categories, and Ariana Grande , who was nominated in six categories. Pharrell Williams was nominated five times, Kiesza , Nicki Minaj and Eminem were nominated four times each. For most of the categories, fans were able to vote via the Internet address of the MTV Europe Music Awards from September 16, 2014 to November 8, 2014. The winners of the categories Best Video and Global Icon were chosen by MTV itself. For the Biggest Fans category , all nominated artists received specific hashtags that fans could use on Twitter and Instagram . The winner of this category became the artist whose hashtag was shared the most.
In Germany, the program was broadcast on November 9, 2014 at 9 p.m. on MTV Germany (Pay TV) and Nicknight (Free TV) as well as via livestream on the website tv.mtvema.com.
