Marcelo D2 (* 5. November 1967 in Rio de Janeiro as Marcelo Maldonado Peixoto Gomes ) is a Brazilian rapper .

Career

Marcelo began his career as a musician with the band Planet Hemp before starting his solo career in 1997. In the same year he released his debut album Eu Tiro É Onda , which was recorded in Los Angeles and New York by Carlos Bass and Mário Caldato Jr.

In 2003 Marcelo released his second album, À Procura da Batida Perfeita ( Looking for the perfect beat ), which was recorded by the producer of the Beastie Boys Mario Caldato . The album contained the tracks Qual é and Loadeando . His son Luca sang along in the latter song. In this album hip-hop was mixed with samba elements. There was also a song on the album that was recorded with the Black Eyed Peas . The album was released in Asia , Europe and North America with the English title Looking for the perfect beat . Marcelo embarked on a two-year tour to promote his album.

Marcelo D2 is also a guest musician in two songs from Sergio Mendes's album Timeless . In 2006 the album Meu Samba É Assim was released and in 2008 his fourth studio album Arte Do Barulho followed .
