Stanley Roto Walker (born October 23, 1990 in Melbourne ) is an Australian pop singer and actor.

biography

Although Walker was born in Australia, he is descended from the New Zealand Maori and grew up in his parents' homeland in Tauranga . His childhood was marked by violence and drugs, which he found out with the help of the church. He went back to Australia to Coolangatta on the Queensland Gold Coast , where he found work as a salesman.

In 2009 his girlfriend at the time had a miscarriage. In the same year, at age 18, he applied to Australian Idol . There he quickly became a favorite, among other things through his performance of the track Purple Rain , in the original by Prince . On November 22nd, he won the seventh and final edition of this talent show . The subsequently released song Black Box immediately reached number 2 in Australia and even number 1 in its second home, New Zealand, and was awarded double platinum in both countries . In New Zealand, it was the best-selling song and the most played song by music channels that year. His debut album Introducing ... Stan Walker with songs from the Idol competition was very successful in both countries and received several platinum awards. At New Zealand's national music awards, the New Zealand Music Awards , Walker was awarded four times, including the Audience Award.

With the second album From the Inside Out , which was released in the summer of the following year, Stan Walker was able to confirm this initial success and with the platinum single Choose You he had the radio hit of the year in New Zealand again. Although he was no longer in the focus of interest in the following years, he was able to continue the series of his chart successes. However, Stan Walker had been more successful in New Zealand than in Australia in the early years. In 2012, interest in him largely died in his country of birth and he was only successful in his parents' country.

In 2012 he made his actor debut in the New Zealand film Mt. Zion , which is about a musician and his relationship with Maori tradition. The film was the most successful New Zealand production of the year. The following year he was a juror on the talent show X Factor in New Zealand .

His fourth studio album, Inventing Myself , reached number three in the New Zealand charts in fall 2013 and produced two top 5 singles. In the same year he was also hired for his musical role model Beyoncé as the opener for their tour appearances in the region. With the New Zealand newcomer Ginny Blackmore he recorded the song Holding You in a duet at the beginning of 2014 and thus had his second number one hit .
