Donkeyboy is a Norwegian pop band from Drammen .
Band history
Donkeyboy began in 2005 as a quartet with the Sundberg brothers Cato and Kent, Thomas Drabløs and Øyvind Haga. The following year they came with the song Broke My Eyes on Norwegian television, where they took sixth place in the program Urørt . Until 2007, Haga was replaced by Peter Michelsen and Alex Ågedal joined. At the beginning of 2008 they started to produce their own album and through appearances and the MySpace page they increased their own awareness. The major label Warner noticed her and signed her in early 2009.
With their first single release in April of the same year, they had resounding success. The song Ambitions took twelve weeks before it climbed to number one on the charts, but it was there for 13 weeks with interruptions. It was not only the summer hit of the year, but also the second most popular download song in Norway up to then, for which it was awarded double platinum . The song spent a whole year among the 20 best-selling songs in the country, only one song lasted longer in the history of the Norwegian charts. When Donkeyboy had to vacate number 1 in September 2009, they replaced themselves at the top of the single charts with their second single Sometimes . With the song they topped the charts for another eight weeks. The band's debut album Caught in a Life also hit number 1 on the Norwegian charts at the end of October. Three more songs on the album made it into the Norwegian Top 10.
At the beginning of 2010, Ambitions was also published in other European countries. The band also reached number one in Sweden in February . Donkeyboy remained unsuccessful in the rest of Europe, after all, the song made it to number 6 in the cover version of the English casting show winner Joe McElderry in the British charts.
In 2011 they were awarded the European Border Breakers Award (EBBA).
In early December 2011, the single City Boy was released in anticipation of the band's second album . It became the band's third number one hit in Norway and topped the charts in Denmark as well . The album Silver Moon came in at number 2 and number 35 in Denmark.
Although the album, like its predecessor, was certified triple platinum and City Boy was their best-selling single, things went quiet afterwards for the band. It wasn't until 2014 that another chart single was released, Crazy Something Normal, and it took another two years until the third album, Lost . But both releases didn't make it into the top 10.
