Stefanie Sun ( Abbreviation孙燕姿, traditional characters孫燕姿, Pinyin Sūn Yanzi , Teochew Sng Yi-che or Sng Ee Tze * 23 July 1978 in Singapore ) is a singer from Singapore. She sings in English , Mandarin and other Chinese dialects and is very popular in Asia .

life and career

Sun was born in Singapore on July 23, 1978. She took piano lessons and sang since she was five. She studied marketing at Saint Andrew's Junior College and Nanyang Technical University , where she received her bachelor's degree in marketing in 2000.

While in college, she wrote her first song called Someone , which she later released on her 2002 album Start . She also attended the Lee Wei Song School of Music , where her singing teacher and founder of the school, Lee Wei Song, discovered her talent and later introduced her to the then chairman of Warner Music Taiwan.

In May 2011 she married Nadim van der Ros, a Dutch-Indonesian. Sun gave birth to their first son in October 2012, followed by a daughter in July 2018.

As one of Singapore's most famous singers, she has been invited to sing the theme songs for the National Day Parade for two consecutive years. For this she wrote and sang We Will Get There in 2002 and One United People in 2003 .

Together with other artists such as Wang Feng , Jane Zhang and Wang Leehom , she recorded the theme song for the torch relay of the 2008 Olympic Games in Beijing , Light the Passion, Share the Dream , in Mandarin. The English version of the title was sung by 106 participants in the 2007 Miss World competition. She also sang the theme song "Mulan Qing" for the Chinese monumental film Mulan - Legend of a Warrior , which was nominated for Best Original Song at the 29th Hong Kong Film Awards .

In 2006 she became the first Singaporean artist, after an orchid was named the Dendrobiem Stefanie Sun . She has been represented as a wax figure in Madame Tussauds in Singapore since 2014 .

Awards

Stefanie Sun won the Golden Melody Award twice . The first time in 2001 with her debut album Yan Zi as the best new artist, the second time in 2004 with her eighth studio album Stefanie as the best singer in Mandarin. It has also won multiple awards in various categories at the Global Chinese Music Awards , the MTV Asia Awards and the MTV Video Music Awards Japan . With more than 30 million records sold, it achieved popularity in China, Hong Kong, Taiwan, Singapore and Malaysia. In total, she has won over 200 awards since starting her career in 2000.
