history

Kara (2009)

2007: beginnings

KARA debuted in 2007 with the four members Gyuri (Leader), Seungyeon, Sunghee and Nicole. DSP Entertainment, the group was to succeed Fin.KL praised. Her first studio album, the First Bloooooming , was released on March 29, 2007 in South Korea. The album is shaped by R&B and pop music . To present the album, the songs Break It , Mame Deulmyeon ("맘 에 들면", If U Wanna ) and Secret World received music videos and were performed live. The First Bloooooming was moderately successful. In July, the group finished promotions for the album.

2008: departure of Sunghee, Rock U

The group started preparing for the next release. However, on February 28, 2008, it was announced that Sung-hee was leaving the group. She had promised her father that despite her commitment to the group she would be able to successfully pass school. However, when she failed the university entrance exam, her father pulled her out of the group.

DSP Media then announced that it would cast two more members . Gu Ha-ra and Kang Ji-young were selected as new members from 6,000 applicants after three months. On 24 July 2008, the newly formed five-member group released their first EP , rock underground . This differs musically from the first album, as the songs on the EP do not contain any R&B elements, but sweet and playful pop.

On July 31, the group appeared on the KBS program Music Bank for the first time with “Wanna” and “Mister”. Mister in particular became very popular due to the associated choreography, the "Po dance" ( 엉덩이 춤 ). Due to Mister and its increasing popularity, the group received more advertising orders in October 2009 than in the entire two years before.
