Gu Hara (born January 13, 1991 in Gwangju ; † November 24, 2019 in Seoul ) was a South Korean pop singer . She was a member of the girl group Kara and then active as a singer, mainly in Japan .

Life

When Kim Sung-hee left the girl group Kara , Gu became a new member of the pop group in 2008. From October 2009 she then represented the group on the reality show Invincible Youth ( 청춘 불패 Cheongchun Bulpae ). In 2011 she made her acting debut as the president's daughter in the television series City Hunter and in the Japanese series URAKARA .

In January 2016 she left her entertainment agency DSP Media and with it Kara. She then signed a contract with KeyEast Entertainment.

In 2018, Gu sued her ex-boyfriend for blackmailing her with threatening to post a sex video. He was then sentenced to three years in prison.

In May 2019, Gu attempted suicide . She was found in time and taken to the hospital. At the. November 13th her single Midnight Queen was released in Japan . Eleven days later, on November 24th, she was found dead at her home in Gangnam . She left a suicide note. After consulting Gu's family, the police decided not to carry out an autopsy and ended the investigation, as there was no evidence of outside interference and clear signs of suicide.
