The JoongAng Ilbo is a South Korean daily newspaper . Together with Chosun Ilbo and Dong-a Ilbo, it is one of the three daily newspapers with the highest circulation in South Korea.

history

The newspaper was founded in 1965 by Lee Byung-chull , founder of the largest South Korean company, Samsung . It has since been based in the South Korean capital, Seoul . JoongAng Sunday has been a Sunday edition since 2007 .

Korea JoongAng Daily

The English-language edition is titled Korea JoongAng Daily . It is one of three English-language daily newspapers in South Korea, alongside the Korea Times and the Korea Herald . The Korea JoongAng Daily is sold together with the New York Times . The publisher is Hong Jeong-do.

marathon

The newspaper has organized the JoongAng Seoul Marathon since 1999 , in competition with the Seoul International Marathon organized by the Dong-a Ilbo .

criticism

JoongAng Ilbo, along with the other two large, also conservative daily newspapers, Chosun Ilbo and Dong-a Ilbo, was criticized as ChoJoongDong ( Korean 조중동 , CJD) for their close relationships with each other and with the government of President Lee Myung-bak ( 이명박 ). The term ChoJoongDong for it was coined by the editor Jung Yeonju 정연주 of The Hankyoreh in October 2000.
