Haloo Helsinki! is a Finnish rock band from Helsinki .
Band history
Jere Marttila and Leo Hakanen made music together when they were students and brought in Jukka Soldan as a drummer. In 2006, while looking for a singer, they met Elisa Tiilikainen from Eastern Finland, who called herself Elli Haloo, and founded Haloo Helsinki! . Just one year later they were signed to EMI Music and another year later their debut album named after the band was released. It was produced by Erno Laitinen and was combined with a tour of Finland. The band immediately entered the top 10 of the Finnish charts . With the second album Enemmän kuin elää they were able to repeat the success in 2009.
The band made a big step forward in 2011 with the album III . It only came in at number 8, but stayed in the charts for well over half a year and earned them a platinum award . With the song Maailman toisella puolen they came into the single charts for the first time, it reached number 3 and also went platinum. Two other songs on the album also made it into the top 10.
Before the next album there were some changes. Sony took over the EMI label and repositioned itself. And Haloo Helsinki! had already started to write their own songs and wrote the new album themselves. Maailma on tehty meitä varten was released in 2013 and made the quartet one of the most popular bands in the country. For the first time they reached number one on the charts and the album stayed in the top 40 for 69 weeks. For 40,000 copies sold, it got double platinum. The song Vapaus käteen jää just missed the top position. At the Emma Awards , the highest Finnish music award, it was named Pop Album of the Year, Haloo Helsinki! got the awards for the best band and the best live musicians.
Just one year later, Kiitos ei ole kirosana followed , the second number one album in a row. With eight weeks at the top, it was the most successful album of the year. It stayed in the charts for more than two years and sold over 80,000 times (quadruple platinum). With the song Beibi , they also made it to number 1 in the single charts, five other tracks on the album also made it into the top 20. This confirmed their award as best band at the 2014 Emma's and Kiitos ei ole kirosana was voted album of the year .
After the great success, the band took a break in 2015, but it did not last long. At the end of 2016, in anticipation of the sixth studio album, the single Rakas was released , with which they reached number 2. The album Hulluuden Highway was released in March 2017 and again reached number 1 , the title song came to number 2 in the single charts.
