The Rumjacks is the name of an Australian band that play a mix of classic Irish music and rock . The lead singer is Frankie McLaughlin, who formed the band together with electric bass player Johnny McKelvey in Sydney in 2008.

history

After being founded in 2008, the Rumjacks grew rapidly into a locally popular band. Their style of music, which combined different elements from almost medieval Gaelic - Irish music to punk , enjoyed great popularity with the community of the "pub scene" of Sydney.

The music group achieved their musical breakthrough with the 2010 album Gangs of New Holland , which contained the most successful song An Irish Pub Song to date . It was viewed nearly 60 million times on YouTube ; around 275,000 Spotify users listen to the Rumjacks every month (as of January 2020).

Lead singer McLaughlin was sentenced to 16 months in prison for repeated assaults as a result of alcohol abuse in 2010.
