The Zenith Paris (full name: Zenith Paris - La Villette ) is a multi-purpose hall in the park Parc de la Villette in the 19th arrondissement of the French capital Paris . The construction in the district de Pont Flandre is the most important concert hall in the country.
history
The Zénith was built in 1983 on the initiative of the then Minister of Culture Jack Lang and was inaugurated on January 12, 1984 with a concert evening with Renaud , Charles Trenet , Jacques Higelin and Zéro de Conduite . The square hall on the Canal de l'Ourcq covers 6,200 m². Depending on the event, between 2,200 and 9,000 seats are available. Every year around 170 events with over 700,000 visitors take place in the hall.
The architects Philippe Chaix and Jean-Paul Morel were commissioned to design a modular hall for concerts , sports and other events. They developed a light metal frame structure that can be easily converted and adapted to the needs of the respective appearance. Since the opening, over 2,000 artists and bands have performed in the Zénith, including all well-known French-speaking musicians, but also many international artists.
Like the Eiffel Tower , the Zénith was a three-year prototype . However, the success of the “Zénith” concept was so great that the hall continued to operate and the concept was also given to other French cities under license .
The Zenith is the venue of the competitions in weightlifting the Summer Olympics in 2024 provided. In addition, the competitions in Taekwondo and Judo of the Summer Paralympics 2024 will take place.
