biography
Career
Gimma's youth were marked by many downsides. His parents divorced and a stay in a psychiatric clinic followed . This was the main reason why he dropped out of high school in 1993 .
In secondary school he sold his first rap tapes in the playground. His path to secondary school, however, was delayed by a tumor diagnosis: A tumor was discovered in Gimma's head that had to be removed in a seven-hour operation. Due to the negative experiences and the operation, Gimma showed behavioral problems. Intensive psychotherapy followed three years later because he became addicted again.
In 1996 Gimma graduated from secondary school and entered a Franciscan monastery . However, Gimma left the monastery after a short time and began a commercial apprenticeship with Calanda Bräu , which he was able to successfully complete after a second psychotherapy.
In 1999 he recorded his first album Planet Strengelbach together with Rennie and DJ Stimpee Kutz from the group Kuchikäschtli and released it without the permission of his comrades. In the following year he was in the opening act for High & the Mighty and Cage Kennylz on stage for the first time abroad.
In 2001 his first solo album, which is now out of print, was released under the title Droga, Sex, Gwalt, Rap , self-distributed. This was followed by the album Wissa Müll and various collaborations with other musicians before Gimma was able to enter the Swiss charts for the first time in 2006 with the album I Gega d'Schwiiz . The album stayed in the charts for 30 weeks and debuted at number 13. In addition, with his single Hymna he was the winner of the official World Cup song of the Swiss national football team . The following year Panzer appeared , which was able to place in the top 10 of the charts.
His sixth album Hippie was largely produced by Roman Camenzind and was very pop music- heavy. Gimma himself later referred to the work as a “cultural low-level flyer” and in the following year returned to the style of earlier records with the album Unmensch .
On January 28, 2011 Gimma released his eighth solo album Mensch si , which contains a total of 13 songs with guest contributions by Adrian Sieber , Carlos Leal , Lou Geniuz and Breitbild . The title track Mensch si was released as a single .
music
Gimma's lyrics range from funny to profound to rowdy. Personal suffering and suffering in the world are addressed in the same way as women and other everyday issues. Gimma uses very direct language. You can also tell that he is not an opponent of drugs. In the song Iisziit , extracted from the successful album I Gega d'Schwiz , Gimma also processes his drug career with painful defeats against addiction and its consequences. In 2008 he also released a concept album about Iisziit under the same title , which was created in collaboration with Claudio Bucher . Furthermore, Gimma is responsible for various party tracks and battle rap songs.
additional
Gimma worked as a youth worker in Chur. He has several tattoos, including a smiley face on the back of his hand and the saying Veritas Odium Parit (Truth Generates Hate) on the left side of the neck. He is also under the name DJ Ammig, Party dictator or Fabrizio risk than DJ active and founding member of Oschtblock Kuabuaba (OBM).
