The M&S Bank Arena is a multi-purpose arena in the English city ​​of Liverpool , United Kingdom . The hall is the Convention Center BT Convention Center , the Arena and Convention Center Liverpool (ACC Liverpool) and is right on the banks of the River Mersey . The building was built on the site of the former King's Dock and offers 11,000 spaces. South of the ACC Liverpool was the in September 2015 Exhibition Center Exhibition Center Liverpool opened.

The building was designed by Wilkinson Eyre Architects. The structural engineer of the design was Buro Happold. The construction of the arena was carried out by Davis Langdon and the AECOM group. The hall was opened in January 2008 and has six changing rooms, five locker cubicles and offices for betting companies and event promoters. Heavy-duty vehicles with a weight of up to 38 tons can drive into the indoor area of ​​the hall.

The hall has solar panels , wind turbines and rainwater sumps to make the Echo Arena Liverpool as sustainable and efficient as possible. The hall produces about half as many CO 2 emissions as comparable arenas (size, capacity, use) in Europe. The cost of the hall was around £ 164 million .

In November 2018 it was announced that the arena will be given a new name. Since the beginning of 2019 the hall has been called M&S Bank Arena , after M&S Bank ( Marks & Spencer Financial Services plc).

The hall is used as a venue for various events. It is a frequently used place for concerts . Nationally and internationally successful artists and bands such as Paul McCartney , Noel Gallagher , Kylie Minogue , Roger Waters , Peter Gabriel , The Eagles , Lady Gaga , Gloria Estefan , Nickelback , Katy Perry , Arctic Monkeys , Neil Young , Justin Bieber , Calvin performed here Harris , Eric Clapton , Bruno Mars and Nicki Minaj . In mid-May 2018, the world association FIG awarded the gymnastics world championships 2022 to Liverpool and the Echo Arena.

On the evening of December 31, 2017, a fire broke out in a multi-storey car park with 1,600 spaces, the Liverpool Waterfront Car Park , next to the hall . The fire was started by a burning car and then spread. At that time, the Liverpool International Horse Show was taking place. The event had to be canceled. The horses standing on the first floor of the parking garage were brought to the Echo Arena. Neither humans nor animals were harmed. Apartments in the area had to be evacuated because of the smoke development. Over 1,400 cars were destroyed. The parking garage was badly damaged and has remained closed ever since. A new parking garage will probably be completed as a replacement in mid-2020.

On April 5, 2018, there was a sad incident on the 9th and final day of the preliminary round of the Premier League Darts in the Echo Arena. Former darts world champion Eric Bristow , who retired from professional sports in 2000, suffered a heart attack in front of the hall and died a short time later.
