The National Ice Center , for concerts and other events Trent FM Arena , is a multi-purpose arena in Nottingham , United Kingdom . The arena serves as both an ice hockey stadium and a concert hall . The concert hall has been named after the local radio station since 2008, after it was previously simply called Nottingham Arena or Motorpoint Arena Nottingham.

The National Ice Center was opened on April 1, 2000 after a two-year construction period by Jayne Torvill . It replaced the Nottingham Ice Stadium built in 1939 , which was completely demolished in the same year. The main users of the Ice Center are the Nottingham Panthers from the Elite Ice Hockey League , who have played their home games in the Ice Center since it opened.

Other sports events that take place in the arena include boxing matches . On October 17, 2009, the super middleweight fight between the American Andre Dirrell and the Nottingham-born Carl Froch took place.

The numerous bands and musicians who performed at the Trent FM Arena include Iron Maiden , Muse , Beyoncé , Westlife , Metallica , Tool , Girls Aloud , Queen + Paul Rodgers , Kings of Leon , The Killers and the Kaiser Chiefs .
