Chur West was an industrial quarter of Chur , the capital of the canton of Graubünden . At the beginning of the 21st century, a new urban quarter was created here with a first construction phase, which was completed in autumn 2012. It has fundamentally changed the cityscape and the transport infrastructure.

The new quarter

Under the leadership of the architect Thomas Domenig , two high-rise buildings were built, each 79 meter high twin towers . On November 11, 2011, the shopping center was opened as the first of three stages of completion.

Transport, agglomeration

Chur West - with a “theoretical population potential of 6,000 people” - is the focus of all traffic planning projects in the agglomeration program for Chur, which expects a 40 percent increase in traffic in the greater Chur area by 2020.

In 2000, the Rhätische Bahn stop of the same name was opened in the district on the Landquart – Thusis railway line. The double-track stop is served by lines S1 and S2 of the S-Bahn Chur and the RegioExpress line RE 3 from Disentis exclusively in the direction of Scuol / Tarasp .

A large roundabout is provided at the Chur Süd motorway exit for private traffic, providing shuttle services to the city center and to the surrounding villages in the direction of Domat / Ems , Haldenstein and Lenzerheide . The St. Luzibrücke is reached from here and the Schanfigg is made accessible by bypassing the city center of Chur.

Urban development, informal participation

Chur town planning declared its intention to develop “an attractive and modern quarter” in Chur West , which “could form the city gate and the calling card of the city of Chur when coming from the south” . The urban development concept "envisages a Werk-Tag-Zentrum with a regional function" . An "informal participation", Dialog Chur West , based on the German model, including the usual "district hike", was implemented - by Swiss standards, with the expanded political rights, more of a "minor matter".
