Antoni Wincenty Różalski (born October 19, 1952 in Ziębice ) is a Polish biologist and professor at the University of Łódź . In 2016 he was elected rector of the university for a four-year cadence.

Life

Różalski attended the general education liceum in Pińczów . In 1971 he began studying biology at the University of Łódź. Five years later he was awarded a master's degree , with a focus on microbiology . He stayed at the university and received his doctorate in 1984. His habilitation took place in 1991 at the Nicolaus Copernicus University in Toruń . He was awarded the title of Professor in 1996. From 1996 to 2002 he was Dean of the Department of Biology and Geosciences, then until 2008 for the Department of Biology and Environmental Protection. From 2008 he was Vice-Rector of the University of Łódź until he was elected Rector for a 4-year term in 2016.

Antoni Różalski is married and has three children.

Scientific work

In collaboration with the Institute of Organic Chemistry of the Russian Academy of Sciences , Antoni Różalski is studying the immunobiological and immunochemical properties of antigens of the gram-negative bacterial genus Proteus and Providencia . The main goal is to gain knowledge about the chemical structure of the lipopolysaccharides in bacteria. He was involved, among other things, in the elucidation of the molecular basis of the serological classification of P. mirabilis and P. vulgaris and Pr. Alcalifaciens, Pr. Stuartii and Pr. Rustigianii. He also works with the TEDA School of Biological Sciences and Biotechnology at Nankai University , China and the Borstel Research Center .

Since 2000 he has been a member of the editorial board of Postępy Mikrobiologii . From 2007 to 2015 he was a member of the Microbiology Committee of the Polish Academy of Sciences , for the last three years he was deputy head. He has been a member of the PAN's molecular cell biology commission since 2016.
