Career

Beginnings

Andrew Gilding started his career at BDO in 2010 before moving to PDC in 2012 . During his two-year career with the BDO, he achieved a tournament victory, namely the 2011 Gibraltar Open . After victories over u. a. Brendan Dolan and Andy Hamilton made the round of 32 in which he was knocked out by Mark Hylton .

PDC

In the PDC, Gilding had hardly any success in the first two years. It wasn't until 2014 that things should go better for him. He reached the final of the second UK Open Qualifier after beating Raymond van Barneveld , James Wade and Phil Taylor . There he was defeated by ex-BDO world champion Stephen Bunting just 5: 6. His good results in 2014 qualified him to participate in the World Matchplay and the World Grand Prix . At the World Matchplay, Gilding picked up a whitewash in round 1 against the two-time world champion Adrian Lewis (0:10). At the Grand Prix he survived the first round, in which he beat Darren Webster 2-0 ( sets ). In round 2 he was out against Phil Taylor (1: 3).

In late 2014, Andrew Gilding played for the first time in a world championship . He met Robert Thornton from Scotland in the first round and lost 3-0 without a chance.

In 2015 he started out as number 38 in the world . His greatest career success to date was at the UK Open 2015 : he started as an outsider in round 3 and defeated Kevin Painter 9-0 there . After further victories over Jelle Klaasen , James Wade and Mensur Suljović , he was in the semi-finals against Michael van Gerwen . Surprisingly, he kept the game against the number 1 of the PDC exciting, but lost 8:10. He received £ 17,000 for the semi-finals .
