The Steigerkreuz , also known as the monk 's cross, is a historical atonement cross in the Steigerwald in Erfurt .

The monument is a 2.70 m high Greek cross of sandstone with a Latin inscription and a relief of a kneeling priest. The inscription reads hIC EST OCCISUS MA / GISTER hENRICUS / DE SYBELEIBEN SACERDOS , in German Magister Heinrich, clergyman of Siebleben, died here . This Heinrich was the canon of St. Severi and was slain on December 10, 1323 by Count Heinrich von Schwarzburg , whereupon he had to set up the atonement cross .

It stands to the west of the former B 4 , today's K  35 (Arnstädter Chaussee), where it was moved in the course of road construction in 1968. The shaft was damaged in the process, but is otherwise in good condition.
