Friedrich von Eickstedt (* 13th century ; † December 6, 1343 ) was a Roman Catholic clergyman and Bishop of Cammin in the first half of the 14th century .

Life

Friedrich von Eickstedt was first mentioned in 1318 as a canon of the Camminer cathedral chapter . In 1320 he was Vice Dominus and Provost of the Kolberg Cathedral Chapter . When a dispute arose within the monastery in the 1320s over the appointment of Bishop Arnold von Eltz by the Pope and the election of two opposing bishops by the cathedral chapter, Friedrich is said to have tried to mediate between the parties. On September 27, 1329 Friedrich von Eickstedt was elected Bishop of Cammin. After the death of Bishop Arnold in the summer of 1330, the election was confirmed by the Pope in Avignon . He managed to largely reduce the split within the diocese.

In the Pomeranian-Brandenburg War he sided with the dukes Otto I and Barnims III. from Pomerania-Stettin . He concluded a protective alliance with them on December 30, 1330. While the dukes continued their campaign in the Mark Brandenburg after the battle at Kremmer Damm , Bishop Friedrich led a campaign in the Neumark , where he occupied Tempelburg . There he received homage as a liege lord , but the recapture of Tempelburg by the Margrave Ludwig I soon ended his claim. However, through negotiations on March 24, 1337 he succeeded in obtaining a contract in which the margrave declared himself feudal bearer of the bishop for his Neumark possessions and the tithe from them.

He brokered a contract between Pomerania and Brandenburg on March 25, 1336 in Eggesin , with which the border disputes were settled. During the negotiations for the Treaty of Grimnitz on March 27, 1340, he was the dukes' legal advisor.

In 1339 he bought the land of Bublitz from the local noble families and in 1340 gave the town of Bublitz town rights.

In the last years of his tenure he made Johann von Sachsen-Lauenburg , a grandson of Duke Bogislaw IV , coadjutor . He was his successor after Friedrich's death in 1343.

During his tenure in 1335 Bishop Cono von Makarska and in 1342 and 1343 Heinrich von Apolda , Bishop of Lavata, served as auxiliary bishops.
