OK54 is a television broadcaster in the west of Rhineland-Palatinate , based in Trier . The program is approved as “OK-TV” under Rhineland-Palatinate media law. The non-commercial citizen radio station is broadcast by cable in the regions of Trier , Wittlich , in the Eifel , on the Moselle to the German-Luxembourg border, in the lower areas of the Saar and in the Ruwertal in the respective cable networks. Since August 2011 it is the first regional television program that is also fed digitally into the cable networks in Rhineland-Palatinate.

A 24-hour program with mostly self-produced content is broadcast. The program blocks are temporarily supplemented by the "TRIER INFOTEXT", a kind of screen newspaper with news, event tips, weather forecast and information about the program. The OK54 television program also includes the local windows from two other citizens' channels from Bitburg and Wittlich .

The state center for media and communication certifies OK54 “rather professional structures”. In the "Indicators for Open Channels" study, the station has been one of the most successful citizens' radio stations in Rhineland-Palatinate since the survey began.

Since 2008, the program is also the world as IPTV - stream received to the Internet. Much of the program content is also available in the broadcaster's own media library .

history

The station originally went on air in 1989 under the name "Offener Kanal Trier" as one of the first programs in the newly established broadband cable network Trier of the German Federal Post Office. The sponsoring association was founded in 1986. It started broadcasting on October 13, 1989. It was broadcast from the north wing of the House of Excellence . In 2003, with the support of the city of Trier , the station moved to larger rooms in the newly built Arena Trier event hall . Due to the spatial proximity, synergies could now be used and the technical connection to the hall opened up new production possibilities. In 2007 the program was renamed OK54.

Further tasks

In addition to the tasks of broadcasting and producing regional television programs, the non-profit sponsoring association Offener Kanal Trier is particularly involved in the area of media skills communication and training. In addition to the qualification measures for individuals, there are also offers for schools, youth facilities, study projects, associations and other groups. In March 2007, the station became a founding partner of the Media Competence Network (MKN) Trier.

Programs and productions

OK54 produces the series Eckpunkte - Kirche und Gesellschaft in cooperation with the Trier diocese, which is also broadcast by other regional channels in Rhineland-Palatinate. Thanks to the direct connection to the Trier arena , many games of the local sports teams, which use the hall as their home ground, can be found both in their own programs and on other broadcasters.
