The O2 Arena is a multi-purpose arena in the south London borough of Greenwich , United Kingdom . The hall is located at the northernmost point of the Greenwich Peninsula , which lies in the Thames . It is part of the entertainment complex The O2 . The O2 Arena is one of the world's most popular venues for sporting events, concerts and family shows.
history
The event arena was built in the Millennium Dome, which opened on January 1, 2000 (since 2005: The O2). The entire dome has a diameter of 365 meters and a height of up to 52 meters. Construction of the arena began in 2003 and opened on June 24, 2007. The O2 Arena has the second largest event hall seating capacity in the UK after the Manchester Arena .
The hall is primarily used as a concert and show arena. The arena was the venue for the gymnastics world championships from October 12 to 18, 2009 . The prestigious ATP Finals , the season finale in professional men's tennis with the eight best players in the world, have taken place in the arena every year since November 2009 . In 2020 it will take place for the last time in London, before moving to Turin . The Premier League Darts tournament series has been in the arena every year since 2010. During the Olympic Summer Games ( gymnastics , trampoline gymnastics ) and the Paralympics 2012 ( wheelchair basketball ), the hall was named North Greenwich Arena, without advertising . On January 16, 2016, the comeback of the former WBA heavyweight champion David Haye (Haye won against the Australian Mark de Mori in a 10-round non-title fight in round 1 by technical knockout ) was organized.
