The Anschutz Entertainment Group ( AEG ), a subsidiary of the Anschutz Corporation , is one of the world's leading entertainment and sports companies . It owns and operates some of the world's largest stadiums , arenas , theaters and various companies, markets and produces entertainment events.

Arenas

The Staples Center in Los Angeles is owned and operated by the Anschutz Entertainment Group. A variety of major sporting and concert events take place at the Staples Center. The official memorial service for the late Michael Jackson took place here on July 7, 2009 .

The O₂ in London , the Dignity Health Sports Park in Carson and the Cadillac Arena in Beijing are also owned by the Anschutz Entertainment Group. In Germany, the company built the Mercedes-Benz Arena in Berlin , which is, among other things, the venue for the Eisbären Berlin and the Alba Berlin basketball club , and the company has owned the Hamburg Barclaycard Arena since 2007. In order to aid the construction project, the Anschutz Entertainment Group is a member of the controversial Mediaspree investor project , which supports the economic use of the banks of the Spree in the Friedrichshain-Kreuzberg district .

ASM Global

In October 2019, the operating company AEG Facilities, a subsidiary of Anschutz Entertainment Group, and SMG, operator of multi-purpose halls, conference centers and theaters, merged. The newly formed company is called ASM Global and is headquartered in Los Angeles . The main office in turn will be in a suburb of Philadelphia . The company also has offices in London, Manchester , Brisbane and São Paulo . ASM Global operates over 300 stadiums, multi-purpose arenas and other event venues on five continents worldwide. The previous owners of the companies, AEG and Onex Corporation , are equal co-owners of ASM Global .

AEG sports

As a further component of the international portfolio, the Anschutz Entertainment Group has a large number of sports teams in the USA and Europe. These include basketball, ice hockey and soccer teams, such as B. the NHL team Los Angeles Kings . The DEL team Eisbären Berlin (100%) also belongs to the AEG, as does the Swedish team Hammarby IF (49%). In late 2006, AEG caused a stir when their soccer franchise LA Galaxy announced the signing of David Beckham .

criticism

The company's boss , Philip Anschutz , has been criticized by the media several times because he financially supports political groups from the evangelical-conservative milieu that discriminate against homosexuals, among other things.

In the summer of 2009, AEG planned a comeback concert series with 50 performances by Michael Jackson . After Jackson passed away on June 25, 2009, Jackson's family charged AEG Live that the concert promoter had asked Jackson to do something that the 50-year-old could no longer do. On September 15, 2010, Michael Jackson's mother, Katherine Jackson, filed a lawsuit against AEG Live. The organizer is accused of neglecting the star's health and safety out of addiction to profit.
