Onex Corporation is a Canadian private equity firm headquartered in Toronto .
The company was founded in 1983 by Gerry Schwartz , who currently holds the majority in the company. As of December 31, 2014, Onex had $ 6 billion of equity under management and $ 14.7 billion of deposits.
Corporate activities
In January 2007, Onex Corporation and Goldman Sachs acquired Raytheon Aircraft Company from Raytheon , forming Hawker Beechcraft .
In June 2007, sold General Motors , the company Allison Transmission to the financial investors Carlyle Group and Onex Corporation. Together with the Canadian pension fund, Tomkins was taken over in 2010 , but Onex only held 14% of the shares.
In September 2012, the Onex Corporation took over the Krauss-Maffei mechanical engineering group from the Chicago-based subsidiary Madison Capital Partners . In 2016 the company was sold to ChemChina .
At the end of 2017, Onyx acquired SMG, one of the world's largest operators of event facilities with over 200 stadiums , arenas , exhibition and convention centers , theaters and science centers worldwide . In October 2019, SMG merged with rival AEG Facilities to form ASM Global , which is held equally by Onyx and AEG.
