Yakup Kılıç

Yakup Kılıç (born July 13, 1986 in Elazığ ) is a Turkish boxer . He won at the 2008 Olympics in Beijing , a bronze medal in the featherweight .

Career

Yakup Kılıç, who comes from Eastern Anatolia, began boxing as a youngster and after his first national successes became a member of the Fenerbahçe SK sports club . At 1.77 meters, he is a relatively large boxer for a featherweight (weight class up to 57 kg), but this has a positive effect on his range. Even as a junior he was one of the top Turkish boxers and in 2003 was Vice- European Junior Flyweight Champion in Warsaw .

In 2004 he won the senior featherweight title with a victory over Ali Bogurcu. This is the only result known from his starts at Turkish championships.

The international career of Yakup Kılıç with the seniors began in 2005. That year he finished 3rd at the Mediterranean Games in Almería / Spain in the featherweight division. In the semifinals he lost against Ovidiu Bobîrnat from Cyprus on points (24:34). At the 2005 World Cup in Mianyang / China he won on points (29:20) over Aboubaker Seddik Lbida from Morocco , but lost in the round of 16 against Berik Serikbajew from Kazakhstan on points (25:29) and came in 9th place.

In 2006 he started at the European Championships in Plovdiv . He lost there but already in his first fight against Eric Donovan from Ireland at featherweight on points and ended up in 17th place.

This was followed by the very successful years 2007 and 2008 for Yakup Kılıç. In 2007 he first won the European Union Championship in Dublin with victories over Iulian Stan , Romania (42:21) and Darren Traynor, Scotland (29:12) and a point defeat in the semifinals against Khedafi Djelkhir from France (6:32) a bronze medal. Then he also convinced at the 2007 World Cup in Chicago . He beat there featherweight Pablo Figuls, Costa Rica , Arash Usmanee , Canada and Sailmon Ardee from Thailand and was thus in the semifinals. In this he could not compete against Albert Selimow from Russia because of an injury . By reaching the semi-finals, however, he had already won a bronze medal at the World Championships. In addition, with this 3rd place, he already earned the right to start at the 2008 Olympic Games in Beijing .

In Beijing he was well prepared and won over Satoshi Shimizu , Japan and Abdelkader Chadi, Algeria . In the semifinals, however, he had no chance against Vasyl Lomatschenko from Ukraine and clearly lost with 1:10 goals. His participation in the semi-finals was rewarded with 3rd place and the win of an Olympic bronze medal.

In 2009 Yakup Kılıç started at the Mediterranean Games in Pescara in the lightweight. After defeating Giorgios Danatsidis from Cyprus, he lost there in the semifinals against Domenico Valentino from Italy on points, but won another bronze medal at an international championship. At the 2009 World Championships , Kılıç went again, but lost in the first fight against Mahdi Ouatine, Morocco (8: 5).

After that he was no longer at the start of any international championships.
