Albert Selimov ( Lezgian Селимов Шевкетан хва Альберт / Selimow Schewketan chwa Albert, Russian Альберт Шевкетович Селимов , Azerbaijani Albert Şevketoviç Səlimov * 5. April 1986 in Kaspijsk , Dagestan ASSR , Soviet Union ) is a former Russian, now Azerbaijani boxers from the people of Greed .

Career

Albert Selimow comes from the Russian republic of Dagestan . He started boxing as a teenager and lives and trains in Makhachkala . His coach there is Nuripascha Talibow. Albert Selimow is southpaw , has excellent technique and strength.

Juniors and youth

Albert Selimow started boxing in 1998. In 2004 he was used at the Junior World Championship in South Korea . He won his first fight there against the Bulgarian Saigan Sabri, but lost in the next round against the Turkish Serdar Avcı.

National

In 2004 he became the Russian junior bantamweight champion and started in 2005 for the first time in the Russian featherweight championships. He got there until the final, in which he lost on points against the more experienced Sergei Ignatiev. In 2006 he was then Russian featherweight champion with a final victory against Afanassi Poskatschin. In 2007 he won the title again by beating Alexei Schaydulin in the final.

In 2009 he became the Russian lightweight champion and defeated the reigning European champion Leonid Kostylev in the final . In 2010 he won the runner-up in this weight class after a narrow defeat in the final against Ildar Waganow. However, he defeated this in the final of the Russian championships in 2011, which he won his fourth national title in the adult.

Europe

Selimow is the winner of the 2006 European featherweight championships and 2010 lightweight, as well as the 2015 European lightweight games. He defeated, among others, the Commonwealth Champion Stephen Smith , the Olympic medalist Şahin İmranov , the vice-world champion Ramal Amanow, the world championship bronze winners Thomas Stalker and Otar Eranossian , as well as the world and Olympic champion Sofiane Oumiha .

At his first World Championships in Chicago in 2007 , he won the featherweight gold medal. Olympic games

As the reigning world champion, he qualified for the 2008 Olympic Games in Beijing , but retired there in the first fight against his World Cup final opponent Wassyl Lomatschenko (7:14).
