Sailom Adi

Sailom Adi ( Thai : สายลม อา ดี , born July 7, 1986 in Amphoe Ban Phai , Khon Kaen Province ) is a Thai boxer in the lightweight . Sailom won the Southeast Asian Games in 2006 and 2009, silver medalist at the Asian Championships in 2013 and participants of the Olympic Games 2008 in Beijing , 2012 in London and 2016 in Rio de Janeiro .

Career

In the junior division (U19) Sailom took part in the Asian Championships in Karachi in 2005 , but was eliminated in the quarterfinals.

Sailom played his first international men's championships in 2006 at the Asian Games . He failed in the preliminary round to Chung Chun An from Taipei (28:11). At the Southeast Asian Games in Korat the following year, Sailom was able to win the gold medal in the featherweight (-56 kg) with a final victory over Orlando Tacuyan Jr, Philippines (AB 2nd) . At the subsequent Asian Championships in Ulaanbaatar , however, he was eliminated in the first fight against Merey Ashkalov, Kazakhstan (20:10).

At the 2007 World Championships , Ardee reached the quarter-finals after winning over Paul Flemming , Australia (22:12) and Bashir Hassan, Sweden (23:13), which he lost to the later bronze medalist Yakup Kilic , Turkey (22:13). With this 5th place Sailom qualified for the Olympic Games 2008 .

At the Olympic Games, Sailom lost in the first fight against Abdelkader Chadi , Algeria (7: 6).

In 2009 Sailom retired after he was able to repeat his success at the Southeast Asian Games, at the Asian Championships again in the first fight, this time against the eventual silver medalist Jai Bhagwan , India (7-0). Things went better again this time at the World Championships : After victories over Duran Caferro, USA (12: 9), and Michał Żeromiński, Poland (13: 5), Sailom lost in the round of 16 against later bronze medalist Albert Selimow , Russia (14: 8 ), out. In the following year, Sailom was eliminated from the Asian Games in the lightweight (-60 kg) in the first fight against the later gold medalist Vikas Krishan , India (8: 1).

In 2011 Sailom won the bronze medal at the Southeast Asian Games and reached the round of 16 at the World Championships after victories over Andrique Allisop, Seychelles (18: 7), and Luis Porozo, Ecuador (17: 6), which he beat against eventual runner-up Yasniel Toledo , Cuba (20: 9), lost. With this 9th place, Sailom qualified directly for the 2012 Olympic Games in London . There he was eliminated in the first round against Ghani Schajlauow , Kazakhstan (22:22) by referee decision.

At the 2013 Asian Championships in Amman , Adi won the silver medal.

In Rio de Janeiro he reached the 5th place in welterweight up to 69 kg at the 2016 Olympic Games .
